Insulation removal in Monterey Park CA - a clean attic, ready to seal and refill
Matted, dirty or unknown insulation comes out of your attic once we know what it is, so it's ready to seal and refill.

Do I need to take out my old attic insulation before adding new?
Insulation removal in Monterey Park means we take the old insulation out of your attic, down to a clean floor, so the gaps can be sealed and new insulation starts fresh instead of sitting on top of a problem.
Most calls start with an upstairs that's hot all summer or a power bill that keeps climbing, and the old insulation up there turns out to be part of the reason. The price moves with your attic's size in square feet, how deep the old material sits, how tight the space is to work in and whether anything needs testing first, and the schedule mostly waits on that test. I'll give you your own number after I've been up there.

What insulation removal looks like
How we handle insulation removal
I want to know what the old insulation is before we pull any of it out. If it looks like vermiculite or it's something I can't identify, it gets tested first, and anything that comes back with asbestos goes to a separate abatement company, not to our crew. Once it's clear, we cover the path from the attic hatch through your house, pull batts out by hand and vacuum loose fill out through a large hose. Then we clean the attic floor down to the wood, because every gap around pipes, wires, can lights and the hatch is easiest to seal when nothing's covering it.
With the floor bare, most jobs move on to sealing those gaps and putting in new attic insulation. For that, sealing plus blown-in insulation, loose fill blown through a hose, usually beats foam on cost, unless your ductwork runs through the attic, where spray foam earns the extra money because it seals air while it insulates. If your floors run cold, the trouble may be under the house instead, and crawl space insulation handles that. A room that stays hot under a good attic often has empty walls, and wall insulation can usually go in through small holes without tearing out drywall.
Why Monterey Park homeowners and landlords call us for insulation removal
I look before I quote
I come out, go up into your attic myself and put the estimate together, then our installers do the work and I go over it with you before we wrap up. You're dealing with the person who actually saw the attic, not someone reading a form.
On my own since 2013
I learned this trade doing upkeep for a property management company, chasing hot rooms and attics somebody else did wrong, and I've run this business since 2013. That's why we won't lay new insulation over a problem just to finish a day sooner.
Fully licensed and insured
We're fully licensed and insured. That covers you and your house while our installers are up in your attic and walking through your rooms.
Working under local asbestos rules
We're based in Monterey Park and work across the San Gabriel Valley and the east side of LA County, where the South Coast AQMD sets survey, notification and work rules for asbestos during renovation to keep it out of the air. The state also registers contractors who handle 100 square feet or more of material with more than 0.1% asbestos, so on a big job, ask the abatement company about that registration.
Knowing what's up there before it comes out matters more than anything else on this job. Call (626) 597-0201 or send us a message with your attic's rough size in square feet and a photo of the insulation, and I'll take it from there.

What happens after you call us about insulation removal?
Call or send the form
Call (626) 597-0201 or use the form, and we'll set up a time for me to come out. A rough size of the attic and a photo of the old insulation help me know what I'm walking into.
I look and price it
I go up into the attic, check what the old insulation is and give you the price for your house on site. If it needs testing, or something like a roof leak has to be fixed first, you hear about it before anything is scheduled.
Our crew clears the attic
Our installers cover the path through your house, take the old material out and leave the attic floor bare. If sealing and new insulation are part of the job, they go in after that.
We walk through it together
Before we wrap up, I go over the attic with you so you can see the cleared floor and anything we sealed or put back. Satisfaction guaranteed on every job.
Insulation removal questions
How do I tell if the insulation in my attic has asbestos?
You usually can't tell by looking unless the material is labeled, so EPA guidance says to treat anything you're unsure of as if it has asbestos and leave it alone until it's checked. The one to watch for is vermiculite, a pebble-like pour-in fill that's usually gray-brown or silver-gold, and EPA says to treat it as asbestos too. If you see that, don't move it, and send me a photo.
Who should remove vermiculite insulation in Monterey Park?
A trained, accredited asbestos abatement contractor should remove it, according to EPA guidance, and that company should be separate from the one that assessed the insulation. In California, asbestos work on 100 square feet or more of the material also takes a contractor with the state's asbestos abatement license, or one whose license qualifier passed the asbestos certification exam. That's why we send it to a separate abatement company and handle the sealing and new insulation once the attic is clear.
How much does insulation removal cost in Monterey Park?
Taking out dry, non-asbestos insulation in good condition usually costs about $2 to $3.50 per square foot in the Los Angeles area. Wet or damaged material, a cramped attic, or anything that needs testing or abatement falls outside that, which is why I price your attic on site with a free estimate.
Do I need a permit to remove attic insulation in Monterey Park?
Monterey Park requires a building permit to alter or repair any building, with a few exemptions, and the city's list names re-roofing but doesn't mention insulation removal, so the answer for your job comes from the city's building permit office. When a job needs a permit, we pull it and set up the inspection, and we check with the office for your address before work starts.
Do we have to leave the house during insulation removal?
For ordinary removal you can usually stay home, since the work happens in the attic and we cover the path through the house. Asbestos is different, and EPA guidance says the contractor seals the work area off with plastic sheeting and tape, shuts off the heating and air conditioning, and keeps household members and pets out until the work is done.
What causes attic insulation to need removing?
Usually it's water from an old roof leak, insulation that's packed down flat over the years, or material nobody can identify. Laying new insulation on top of wet or bad material keeps the problem in your attic, so it comes out first, and a roof that's still leaking gets fixed before anything new goes up.
Work that often goes with insulation removal
Crawl space insulation
Cold floors usually trace back to bare or sagging insulation under the house, and it's worth a look while I'm already checking the attic.
Wall insulation
Rooms that stay hot or drafty after the attic is done often have empty walls that need filling too.
